Pro Loco of Cellino San Marco-APS

The traditions of Cellino San Marco.

* On the last Sunday of Carnival, the Pro Loco (tourist office) organises a historical re-enactment of the court of the feudal lords of Castrum Caelini, Fiordelisia De‘ Folliosa and Antonio De’ Noha. The procession, with the participation of numerous people in period costume accompanied by a large group of flag-wavers, creates the right atmosphere with its drumming rhythms and acrobatic flights of flags unfurled in the air. An event to be repeated annually with a creative and cultural crescendo in the name of safeguarding the traditions of the territory.
* Holy Week. In order to cultivate the popular historical memory, on Palm Sunday the traditional ‘te-tè’ are made, typical of Cellino San Marco. In fact, in times gone by, it was traditional to make ‘tètè’ for children, very colourful objects that the children would use to show off on Palm Sunday. They were made with very simple materials, such as cane sticks, coloured cards, tissue paper, glue and chickpeas.
* July: ‘Local produce festival’ included in the civic programmes of the patron saint's festival, in collaboration with the Festival Committee. The initiative consists of an exhibition of local handicrafts, tasting of food and wine products by local wineries and oil mills, pastry shops and dairy products, with performances by folk groups.
* August: ‘Invitation to the opera’. The local tourist information office organises various cultural events with the aim of raising awareness of opera and its cultural importance as an intangible and material asset of Italian and world cultural heritage (UNESCO).
