Castello Imperiali

Via Municipio, 4 , 72021 Francavilla Fontana (BR)

Castello Imperiali in Francavilla Fontana will fascinate you with the historical charm of its structure and interiors, with its architecture and its frescoes. Built around 1450 by Giovanni Antonio del Balzo Orsini, it was transformed into a military fortress in 1547 by Giovanni Bernardino Bonifacio, Marquis of Oria and feudal lord of Francavilla. The ancient beauty of the building that you see today actually dates back to 1700, thanks to a series of architectural interventions commissioned by Prince Michele Imperiali, after whom the castle is named. As soon as you enter through the huge portal with the Imperiali coat of arms, you can admire the ancient beauty of a timeless structure. The huge porticoed courtyard leads up a double flight of stairs to the heart of the building, which is divided into three different levels. Once inside, you can admire the beautiful vaults, frescoed by Giovanni Vollono in 1928, which decorate some of the castle's large rooms.
