Walking through Piazza IV Novembre, which is also overlooked by the splendid Matrice church , you can look eastwards to admire the recently restored Palazzo dell'Orologio, with its recognisable turret housing a mechanism that is still working.
Built at the beginning of the last century, it was first the seat of the Town Council of Mesagne (from 1835 to 1868), then the Magistrate's Court, and since 1985 it has housed the Archaeological Museum (later moved to the Castle) and the Municipal Library dedicated to Ugo Granafei, which is still active in its rooms.
The façade has doors on the two floors that open symmetrically to the entrance door, surmounted by the coat of arms of the Mesagne family and a mullioned window on the main floor. They are framed by smooth ashlar pilasters that rise straight up to the tower with the clock, as if to emphasise the original and main function of the building, marking the hours of town life, today as in the past.
