Palazzo Cavaliere

Piazza Orsini del Balzo , 72023 Mesagne (BR)

In the town of Mesagne, among its stupendous treasures, you will be enchanted by the beautiful Palazzo Cavaliere. This 17th-century building has been declared a historical monument for its beauty and historical importance, in particular for the presence of a very special entrance portal in Renaissance style. As you approach, you can admire each of its elements, such as the lateral columns enlivened by overlapping stone projections (ashlars) arranged in a characteristic pyramidal pattern. If you look a little higher, you can see the balcony, enriched by a balustrade of flattened columns with delightful floral ornaments, which are difficult to see from a distance.
The building now houses a museum of religious art, with a collection of Christian devotional objects from the nearby Matrice church. Inside the palace you will find spacious rooms and surprising architectural features, such as the great staircase that leads to the upper floors of the building. Here are displayed beautiful collections of sacred art that will help you better understand the sophisticated goldsmithing techniques of this type of production.
