Monument to Domenico Modugno

The silhouette of the great artist Domenico Modugno, who lived in San Pietro Vernotico from his youth, adorns the street and represents the town's attachment to its illustrious citizen.

Nel blu dipinto di blu, also known as Volare, is a song written in 1958 by Modugno himself, together with Franco Migliacci.  First performed at the Sanremo Festival in 1958, it was the winner of that edition and went on to become a worldwide success, becoming one of the most famous Italian songs in the world and the most commercially successful of all time. The word that begins the chorus, Volare, has become synonymous with the song.
