Palazzo del Vecchio Municipio

In the beautiful sunny Piazza del Popolo, the ancient heart of San Pietro Vernotico, where the Chiesa Matrice Maria SS. Assunta, stands the Palazzo del Vecchio Municipio with its clock tower, which still marks the time in the town.
Built in 1838 as a town hall, it lost its original function in the 1890s, but it is still a landmark for the people of the town, who still go about their daily lives in the large square that it proudly dominates.
Its neoclassical façade, linear and calming in its tonal balance of rusticated stone and pink plaster, tells part of the city's history in the two large engraved marble slabs commemorating the dead of the two wars. Today, as in the past, the large windows are open to welcome and dialogue with the inhabitants and tourists passing through, inviting them into the restored rooms where exhibitions and events are held throughout the year.
