Villa Valletta

Walking along Via Stazione in the historical centre of San Pietro Vernotico, you will have the opportunity to discover one of its most famous buildings, recently bought back by the municipality: the splendid Villa Valletta, a perfectly preserved example of a Liberty style residence.
The building dates back to the first two decades of the 20th century and was commissioned by the wealthy wine entrepreneur Antonio Valletta, who, fascinated by the villas that were beginning to appear on Lake Como at the time, asked his chief architect, the architect Barbieri, to build it in a style directly inspired by the famous Villa Sironi in Como.
The villa, now under the protection of the Beni Culturali (Cultural Heritage), is a fine example of aristocratic architecture in an eclectic style, where references to other ancient styles and many apocryphal quotations dance in the perfect paradox that characterises it, in a harmonious bazaar of details taken from Gothic, Renaissance, Egyptian and Moorish exotic atmospheres, skilfully modulated in the ornamental lines of Art Nouveau.
The interiors are divided into communal and private areas, from the three-room apartment to the magnificent Green Salon, from the extensive library to the exquisite open-air veranda that overlooks the city of which it is a beloved symbol and today, thanks to the City Council, a venue for exhibitions and cultural events.
